The purpose of this study was to analyze the career development of adults with the artistic and conventional occupations. As a way of obtaining informations on adults with the artistic and conventional occupations, semi-constructed interviews were used. The Holland\'s typology and the Super\'s life-span development theory were used as a basis for formulating research question and for analyzing data. Findings were presented according to Super\'s career development variables.
The results of the study were as follows:
(1) Adults with the artistic occupations were grown up in an atmosphere of freedom and could express their own sensitivities and originalities. And they entered upon studies with excellent results in art. The upholding of their family was major support in developing the artistic talents. They satisfied their own creativities fully, and became professional artists. They recognized the job as what they want to do, and worthy of create a work of art.
(2) Adults with the conventional occupations were reared in dilligent and stern family. So they consider endurance more important than their desire. They had a strong sense of responsibility and were good to put in order or conform to the custom. Having a stable job and giving a help hand to family were the aim of life. Gradually they were interest of the clerical staff. They regard the job as what they have to do, and worthy of compose a life.
(3) Adults with the artistic occupations developed the career on intuitional way. They were positive as to the confidence of their faculty in art, so choose the occupation in childhood. The achievement experiences influenced a positive effect upon to have an artistic occupation. So they expanded their abilities and interests. They considered that a job is what they want to do and the most important value is expression and freedom. But adults with the conventional occupations developed the career on dependent way. Due to discretion, it took long time to chose the occupation. They were definitely superior to the others in setting to right. They moderated in giving full play to their genius, so became accustomed to restrict their possibility. The failure experiences affects upon to choose the conventional occupation. They considered that a job is what they have to do and the most important value is endurance, responsibility, stability, and sincerity.
And on the other hand, adults with the artistic and conventional occupation were common to these. First, they expanded their the scope of activities to family - school - society according to the three period ; childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Second, their career type was formed among environmental and individual variables constantly. Third, they led career through their own career type. Forth, increasingly they could prospect their whole life and get career identity.
