The purpose of this study was to examine effects of a story retelling
strategy utilizing writing story mapping on story comprehension and
production ability of children with mental retardation. To achieve this, 3
middle school students with mild mental retardation who were selected.
As a result, first, story retelling strategy utilizing the writing story mapping
had a positive influence on story comprehension of mentally retarded
children. Second, after using the strategy of story retelling utilizing the
writing story mapping, story narrative production ability of mentally retarded
children was improved. Third, after using the strategy of story retelling
utilizing the writing story mapping, average morphemes length of mentally
retarded children lengthened.
In conclusion, a story retelling strategy utilizing writing story mapping for
mild mentally retarded student improves the story comprehension and story
narrative production ability and affects positively to increase of the average
