In 2010, Korea National Institute for Special Education (KNISE) make a new leap forward
giant development in the Korean special education history through opening of the KNISE's
New building in Asan and the changes of the old building to 「Educational Welfare and
Information Support Center for Persons with a Disabilities」. Under the altered environment,
the KNISE will strengthen national accountability on the macro level, and suggest its
conditions establish educational support system for persons with disabilities by stages.
Firstly, in the new KNISE's building in Asan all researchers will pursue its new
challenges as follows: the development of special education policies, various fundamental
studies, curriculum and guide books of text books for special school, trainings/courses for
enhancing teachers' professionalism, cooperation and exchanges in academic and
information on special education.
Secondly, the old KNISE building, 「Educational Welfare and Information Support Center
for Persons with Disabilities」, will implement information and accessive technology on
special education, trainings/courses for other persons related to special education such as
assistants, persons with disabilities as well as teachers, promoting of life-long learning
project, recognition of the persons with disabilities to the nation.
Therefore, the KNISE will do its best to construct successful social inclusion for persons
with disabilities, and furthermore special educational support system by stages for their
