This study was done to identify factors related to health related quality of life (HRQoL) in elderly women
living in rural areas of Korea. Methods: The participants were 926 elderly women living in rural counties in South
Cholla Province. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, t-test and multiple regression with the SPSS program. Data
on demographic characteristics, heath behavior, social network, self-efficacy and EQ-5D (EuroQol) were included
in the study. Results: The mean score on the HRQoL index for the women was 0.7±0.24. The significant predictors
of HRQoL were stress, self-efficacy and economic status. These factors accounted for 17% of variance in health
related quality of life of elderly rural women. Conclusion: The results of this study provide a basis for the
development of nursing strategies to improve health related quality of life for elderly women living in rural areas
and it is recommended that programs for health related quality of life for elderly rural women be planned based
on results of the study.
