The purpose of this study is to examine the aspects of the death related words
of sino-Korean, especially concerning ‘our death’ and ‘own death’ ideas among the
four attitudes fronting death by Philippe Ariès(1975). Firstly, ‘our death’ idea is
more prominent than ‘own death’ idea in the sino-Korean intransitive verbs.
Secondly, sino-Korean intransitive verb monosemies are classified into the following
order, by the conformity level of the death frame shown in the death situation of
the bed room: "Gojonghada" class>"Yojeolhada" class> "Gaeksahada" class. Third,
the honorific or figurative expressions among sino-Korean intransitive verb
monosemies correspond to Korean traditional idea: Honbaek. Fourth, there are more
vocabularies evaluating his or her life positively than the vocabularies assessing the
life negatively, concerning ‘own death’ idea.
