박물관교육 수요의 급증과 함께 박물관교육의 역할, 정의와 범주, 이론과 실제에 대 한 고찰과 논의가 필요한 시점이다. 전시와 더불어 박물관의 정체성구성 요소인 박물 관교육을 평생교육, 사회교육, 문화예술교육, 문화교육 맥락에서의 정의와 범주에 관 해 논 하였다. 또한 차별화되고 박물관의 대표성을 갖는 교육프로그램 기획과 진행을 위해 더글라스 워트와 박물관경험개념도와 리차드 캐슬의 학습자 유형별 활동의 개념 도 이론과 적용방안을 소개 하였다.
This paper examines definitions and scope of museum education as its social demand increases in Korea. It is easy to find activities without solid theoretical background in the museums. In order to meet social demand, educators in museums barely have time to reflect their action and to contemplate for progress. It is necessary to take a break from busy work to make sense of and find meaning of fast growing field. This paper organized such as museum education's brief note on changes since 1980s, examination of definition and scope of museum education followed by theories and practical application of education to demonstrate importance of professionalism and speciality of individual museums' education practices. The paper represents concepts of lifelong learning, social learning, arts education in relation with museum education. It not only introduces Douglas Worts' conceptual model of museum experience and Richard Cassels' characteristics of different types of learner also their application. Museum can be identified with its public displace, exhibition as well as education practices. Museum functions as main education setting and program provider. Museum education's collective purpose is to share cultural identity with community and individual museum has its own educational goal and ways and means to accomplish the goal. Many museum examine current theories and applications to construct solid sound program and share their works among colleagues. It is expected to witness such progress in the field.
