This study investigated the research trends of art therapy by analyzing articles published in Korean Journal of Art Therapy, the journal of Korean Art Therapy Association. A total of 475 published articles were categorized by the purpose of the studies into the following types: the investigation type, the experiment type, the case type, and other types. Especially in the articles belonging to the experiment type and the case type, the relevance between the subjects investigated and the study theme was examined. Percentage and frequencies were used to analyze the trends. The findings are as follows: First, the number of published articles increased on a yearly basis. In the study method, the experiment type (38.7%) and the case study type(24.7%) made up the majority. Second, a majority of the investigation type articles focused on the reaction studies of projection tests(65.4%), especially on KFD(41.2%). Third, in the case study type, child participants made up 56.1% and adult participants 62.2%. The therapy was performed mainly individually to improve their adaption problem or to remedy their behavior problems. Fourth, in the experiment type, child participants made up 41.7% and adult participants 57.6%. Group-based therapy treatment was most common in this type. The therapy was performed mainly to improve their communication and inter-personal relationships. Fifth, in other types, an analysis of art works(35.9%) made up the majority. With this in mind, it is desirable that subsequent articles in the field of art therapy show more variety in study methods and projection techniques.
