First of all, this researcher reviewed relation between literacy and identity from socio-cultural view, and then analysed research materials which were collected through observing one literacy instruction of a preservice elementary school teacher and interviewing with her.
The preservice elementary school teacher was well-prepared for literacy instruction in order to consider her students' interests and abilities and to achieve learning objectives. But because the preservice elementary school teacher perceived literacy in terms of skill-based perspective, she couldn't understand her students' identity negotiation in this instruction.
For improving literacy education preservice teacher education should help preservice teachers to have balanced perspective on literacy and curriculum materials including textbooks and teacher's guide books are developed to reflect on socio-cultural view of literacy.
