The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of the solution-focused literature therapy on self
concept and hope of the middle schoolers. To achieve the purpose of this study, solution-focused Literature
therapy was explained and self-concept and hope were measured to 100 students (recommend by social
worker) among 2nd or 3rd graders who had participated in after-school-program in middle school in Pohang.
Among them, lower-leveled 24 students were chosen and randomly assigned into two groups: Each of the
experimental group was composed of 12 students and the non-experimental group. For the experimental group,
the literature therapy program was conducted twice a week (totally 10 times, 1 session lasted 90 minutes) and
for the non-experimental group, anything wasn't conducted. To analyze the effect, the pre-test, the post-test
and follow-up tests were performed.
The results were as follows : 1. The Solution-Focused Literature therapy improves the Self Concept of the
middle schoolers and the effect was maintained in 5 weeks after the program. 2. The Solution-Focused
Literature therapy improves the Hope of the middle schoolers and the effect was maintained in 5 weeks after
the program.
