The purpose of this research is to verify the effect of Acceptance and Commitment
Group Counseling on late elementary school children’s anxiety and psychological
well-being. For the purpose of this study, both the anxiety scale and the psychological
well-being scale were administered to the two classes of the 6th grade in Seoul Y
elementary school. Subsequently, only experimental group was treated by 10 sessions(40
minutes per session) of the Acceptance and Commiment Group Counseling Program for
4 weeks. After finishing the experiment, the anxiety scale and the psychological
well-being scale which are the same as two pre-tests were administered to two classes.
For processing data, MANOVA was carried out using SPSS 23.0. The findings of
analysis are as follows. First, the experimental group showed significantly lower scores
in anxiety and its the sub-factors than those of control group. Second, the experimental
group showed significantly higher scores in psychological well-being and its
sub-factors than those of control group except autonomy. The above results imply that
Acceptance and Commitment Group Counseling Program is effective for reducing
children’s anxiety and improving psychological well-being.
