This study investigated the differences in blood oxygen saturation and heart rate due to breath control. In the control group, the average blood oxygen saturation level was 98.9% and the average pulse rate was 88.7 beats per min. Breathing was stopped for 63.9 seconds, to reach a minimal blood oxygen saturation level. At that time the average blood oxygen saturation level was 93.8% and the average pulse rate was 86 beats per min. The differences between the male and female groups were that the average male blood oxygen saturation level was 2.2% lower and the heart rate was 1.38 beats per min. lower than the average for the female group. Additionally smokers had an average blood oxygen saturation level that was 3.22% lower and a heart rate of 0.55 beats per min. lower than nonsmokers. The differences between male and female smokers were that the male smokers showed an average blood oxygen saturation level that was 1.8% lower than female smokers and also the average male’s heart rate was 3.75 beats per min. lower.
